Ad spend transparency

Clear visibility on every pound your advertising accounts report spending.

Understand where the budget went, what the platforms say it produced and where attribution or tracking may make the picture less certain.

What transparency should mean

More than a chart showing that spend went up or down.

Useful transparency connects advertising activity to commercial questions and makes uncertainty visible rather than hiding it in footnotes.

£

How much was spent?

See total spend by platform, campaign, ad group, ad set, advert, keyword or search term, depending on the platform.

What tracked value came back?

See platform-reported sales, leads and conversion value while keeping those claims separate from confirmed business revenue.

Where did the budget concentrate?

Understand whether a small number of campaigns, adverts or searches received a disproportionate share of spend.

!

What needs explaining?

Highlight spend without a tracked result, declining efficiency, expensive clicks, repeated exposure and unusual campaign settings.

?

Can the conclusion be trusted?

Show the amount of data available, missing fields, tracking concerns, stale synchronisations and attribution limitations.

What should happen next?

Separate urgent questions from activity that should be observed for longer before any decision is made.

Tracked value is not banked revenue

Advertising platforms report attribution, not certainty.

A platform can report that an advert influenced a sale. That does not prove the advert was the only cause, that the order was profitable or that another platform did not claim the same conversion.

AdSpend Lens should always label these figures as tracked or platform-reported value. Later integrations with ecommerce, CRM or accounting data can help compare attributed results with verified outcomes.

Why platforms can claim the same sale
Meta Ads says£12,400tracked sales value
+
Google Ads says£9,850tracked sales value
Not automatically£22,250of unique confirmed revenue
How a warning remains transparent

Every conclusion should show its working.

Finding

£1,280 was spent without a tracked purchase

Date range1–30 July
Activity included3 sales campaigns
ComparisonOther purchase campaigns
Evidence levelReasonable
Why this was raised

The campaigns spent substantially more than the account’s typical cost to generate a tracked purchase. This warrants investigation but does not prove the campaigns have no awareness or assisted-conversion value.

“What is each campaign intended to achieve, and which result is being used to decide whether it should continue?”
Transparency includes data quality

A clean-looking dashboard can still be based on unreliable tracking.

AdSpend Lens should surface technical issues in language a business owner can use, rather than burying them in a settings screen.

Missing conversion valuesThe platform reports purchases but no sales value.
Duplicated conversion actionsThe same order or lead may be counted more than once.
Conflicting currenciesSpend and tracked value may not be directly comparable.
Stale or broken connectionThe most recent data may not have synchronised.
Different attribution windowsMeta and Google may be crediting outcomes using different rules.
